Why Good Friday?

Why do believers celebrate Good Friday? We celebrate Good Friday because that is the day that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the cross that we could be saved. Saved from what? Saved from spending our eternity in Hell. Yes Hell is a literal place! To be more specific, everyone who does not accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, they will spend all of eternity being tormented in the continuously burning "Lake of Fire" described in the book of Revelation.

Jesus had a lot to say on the cross. Here are a few of His final words and final actions.

Matthew 27:50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

John 19:28-30 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Luke 23:44-46 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

So, why is this good news? Because Our God did not stay dead! Yes, Jesus is God and Yes He is alive!

Luke 24:1-8 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.

Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for me!
